"Tales of the City 2000"
Derby Street

As drawn by Thomas William Hammond in 1919, the most imposing feature of Derby Road is No.174, designed by Brewill & Bailey, which opened in 1912 as the Territorial Army Headquarters; the building now contains offices and flats. To its right is a row of shops, still functioning as such. To its left, the houses of Brunel Terrace are now well hidden by trees. Whilst the 1919 street scene is dominated by the paraphernalia surrounding the tram, the 2000 view is dominated by the motor car.
