Barker Gate House

Barker Gate House is an office block which was built in the 1960s. It is situated on Belward Street, adjacent to the new Ice Stadium.

In 1999 plans were submitted by American hotel giant Howard Johnson to demolish the City Council owned building and replace it with a 154-bedroom hotel.

With the building now owned by Raven Nottingham, the planned 13-storey hotel was reduced to a projected 11-storey building but this failed to get planning premission, being described as potentially "overwhelming and intrusive".

Revised plans were submitted in 2000 to convert the building into 51 flats by recladding the exterior and keeping the number of floors at 8, plus an extra "penthouse" level. These plans were accepted by the City Council.
